A city mountain with stepped paths, a few summits, and a cable car if the heat wins. It is scenery and a walk. It is not a multi-day trek, and it is not a temple complex.
Go in the morning. The haze lifts, sometimes, and the city is the view rather than the point. This is not tagged as a trek: the paths are a city-mountain walk, paved and stepped.
Pair it with nothing delicate in the afternoon. Your legs will already have an opinion.
Getting there
Metro toward the south or west gate of the park, then the park bus or your feet. It is the north of Guangzhou, a half day, not a hop from Shamian.
Staying nearby
Sleep in the city. A lodge on the mountain is for sunrise, not for dim sum. The trail is the visit. The neighborhood at the gate is ordinary.
