A rebuilt entertainment district around an older temple and a canal. Locals and visitors both show up after dark. Eat salted duck somewhere with a shorter queue than the first boat.
This is a cultural neighborhood, heavily restored. It is not tagged as a historic monument. The temple is the old piece. The rest is a night market with a famous address.
One evening is the right amount.
Getting there
Central metro to the Fuzimiao stops. The area is small and crowded. Arrive, walk the river once, and leave for dinner if the lanes are only selling snacks.
Staying nearby
Lively and loud. Sleep here if you want the lights outside. Sleep in Xinjiekou if you want the metro and a quieter night a few stops away.
