Xiamen · 南普陀寺
Nanputuo Temple A working temple with a vegetarian dining hall people actually recommend. The hill behind it is a separate climb. Come for the courtyards, and eat the vegetarian meal if you want a Fujian plate without the seafood question.
Historic sites 历史古迹
An hour for the halls, longer if you eat. The climb behind the temple is optional and hot.
Historic. Not a hike, even with the hill. The hiking is not this city’s specialty.
Getting there
South of the main island, a short taxi or bus from Zhongshan Road. The university gate next door is a useful landmark for the driver.
Staying nearby
Stay on Zhongshan Road or near the university if this and the beach are your morning. Gulangyu is a ferry away, not a walk.
