Huangshan
Huangshan · 西递
Xidi Stone gates, carved doorways, and a village that rewards walking without a single famous pond. See it if you liked Hongcun and want the quieter cousin. Skip it if one village was enough.
Historic sites 历史古迹
The carving over the doors is the detail Hongcun’s water steals from you. Look up.
It is a historic village. The same manners apply: you are in a street where people live.
Getting there
Close enough to Hongcun to do both in a day with a driver or the local bus, if you start early. From Tunxi it is the same kind of ride.
Staying nearby
Tunxi, or Hongcun if you are already there. Xidi at night is quiet. Dinner will be limited. That is either the appeal or the problem.

Village ticket
How to get in Buy at the gate or the official account. A combined Hongcun–Xidi ticket is the thing to check before you pay twice. Morning, again. The tour buses have a schedule and you can be ahead of it. Some ancestral halls inside are included. A private house that invites you in for tea is a shop.
