A Ming-Qing county seat, walls included. The through-ticket usually covers the wall and a list of courtyards. Walk the wall near dusk. Walk the side lanes in the morning. The main cross is a market.
Historic town. People live and trade here. You are a guest in a street, not in a museum gallery, except in the courtyards that are museums.
Two nights is the right shape. One night is a rush between the train and the wall.
Getting there
From Pingyao station to a gate, then on foot. Golf carts are optional. The wall walk is the circumference you have time for, not a race. A section and back is a fine visit.
Staying nearby
Inside, off the main street. Tell the driver the guesthouse and the gate. Cars do not belong in the lanes. Dragging a suitcase down the cross street at noon is the mistake.
